Thai Massage Schools in Chiang Mai
Once this course is completed, what we would like to offer, if you wish, is to help you define the school(s) or the teacher(s) that could be next, based on what we've learned from you and our experience and based on your expectations and projects.

simple facts:

There is no "best" school, in Chiang Mai or anywhere else.
The quality of a school will always be determined by the quality of the relationship between a student and a teacher and/or an institution. And as you can guess, there is a lot of different types of students and teachers. The right link between student and teacher makes both of them good - sometimes even exceptional.

In Chiang Mai there are at the moment of the creation of that page,
11 goverment accredited schools, at least twice as many courses,
and probably more than 50 independent teachers...

In Thailand, as in many countries, it is ordinary to give a commission to somebody who brings a student to a school. When we recommend a school for you, and possibly introduce you to the place, we don't accept any commission of any kind. Our main motivation is Massage.

You don't have a review of all the schools of Chiang Mai listed below, only those that we know well enough to possibly recomend to you. Either we have studied with them (in most of the cases) or we have enough testimonies of former students to forge an opinion. This list will grow with time.

All and each of the schools listed here have qualities which are unique
and would be hard to find otherwise.

"Big" schools
  SUNSHINE MASSAGE SCHOOL
The 10-day beginners course, based on Asokananda's teachings, is a great classic.
Rich and intense programs in a nice place.

  TMC
With a program Based on the Thai Standard style, TMC is a very serious and successful institution, famous for its 300 or 600-hour teacher training and its rigor in management.

  OLD MEDECINE HOSPITAL
The current generation of practioners and schools has been greatly influenced by this historical place. They still propose a 2 weeks program.

Interesting alternatives
  LOY KROH MASSAGE COURSE
A very interesting sequence compiled by the talented Cookie, taugh one-to-one by experienced and dedicated teachers.

  SUNSHINE LAHU MONTAIN VILLAGE
Where the Sunshine network takes its roots. An exceptionnal place to learn from Asokananda's certified teachers. Very basic acomodations in a Lahu village 70 km from Chiang Mai. A unique experience. Check the site to know who is teaching at the moment.

  T H A  (Thai Healing Arts)
A new school in Chiang Mai, linked to ITM. We have not been there personnaly but several students came back happy from this original program. He talks and play about balance and axis, we like that at Feel First ;-).

Independant teachers
  ADJAN PICHET BONTUMEE

Other (very) interesting places around here
Here are courses in Chiang Mai that we recomend to massage students. We believe that they provide knowledge and understanding that will nourrish usefully a masseuse's practice

  TAI CHI, THE ESSENTIAL POSTURES
8-day Intensive Residencial Introductory Training Program in The Essential Postures of Tai Chi Chuan. A rich and deep course about a Tai Chi sequence of course, but also about taoist philosophy, meditation, energy and martial applications. A lot of valuable tools and insight for your massage practice.

  CRANIO SACRAL WORKSHOPS
The gentle touch of Rosemary and her talent to share the essence of her work are to our opinion, a chance offered to anybody who is into a world of Touch, Energy & Bodies. Check out her website and contact her to know when she is around.
(She is actually in Chiang Mai until January 08 !)

  THAI MASSAGE CIRCUS
A very interesting event organized by Arno L'hermite in Luang Prabang, Laos.
from february 18th to March 14th 2008. a group of experienced and passionated teachers, often related with the Sunshine Network, are taking 30 experienced students on a Thai Massage centered adventure. Last minute : The next Circus will be in Crete, sep-oct 2008 !

  MEDITATION
Meditation, whatever is your technique, can also be described as the adventure(s) of observation(s). Meditation is one of the very best way to understand and devellop the qualities that we believe you want to cultivate into and through your massage practice.
There is no place that we particulary recommend, as it is a more than ever about a personal journey, but we will be happy to provide you with names and adresses.

Note, if you were to spend the time to learn basic Thai language... the list of interesting teachers and places around Chiang Mai would be 3 times longer. There are many schools and courses to learn this very interesting language...
